Sheldon Ross, a 48-year-old resident of Dallas and owner of a security company, was found guilty of murder and sentenced to 80 years in prison on July 2, 2024.
Ross's company provided armed security services to both legitimate and illegitimate businesses, employing felons and homeless young women. These employees were provided with uniforms and firearms despite their legal restrictions. Ross rarely compensated his employees, leaving them with little recourse due to their criminal backgrounds and involvement in illegal activities.
One of Ross's employees, Parolee Mykael Hill, dissatisfied with the lack of payment, decided to rob an illegal game room. He enlisted the help of another employee, 23-year-old LaDominique Roney. On January 5, 2022, they executed the robbery. When Ross discovered their involvement, he fatally shot Roney at an undetermined location.
The next day, on January 6, 2022, at approximately 6:48 a.m., Roney’s body was found at 1600 Arrow Road, Dallas, Texas, by a young man on his way to work.
In March 2023, Ross was also convicted of Aggravated Assault Family Violence and sentenced to 20 years in prison with a $10,000 fine. The same trial team handled both cases.
With the murder conviction, Ross's total sentence now amounts to 100 years in prison.
