Business Law students in Koni Vahdat's class at Nimitz High School took action throughout the semester regarding a problem they noticed among peers and the public: texting and driving.
For two weeks, students researched, planned and implemented a strategy for their distracted driving service learning project. Students found articles about to the problem nationwide and statewide and students selected videos to support their research. They then created a campaign to collect statistical data in the Nimitz area.
Rick Rosenblad, Nimitz School Resource Officer, visited the students to share statistics in Irving, as well as local laws regarding distracted driving. Students created colorful signs and banners, and each took a duty station at Nimitz both morning and afternoon to record the occurrences of distracted driving in their school zone.
