The number of unemployed in Irving increased in January to 6.6% from 5.6% in December 2008, as compared to 7.1% overall across the DFW Metroplex.
The State's unemployment rate was 6.4%, while the national rate was 7.6%. Irving hit a high of 7.4% in June 2002.
Despite the rising unemployment rate and another month of statewide job losses, Texans are actually getting a bit more confident in their employment outlook according to the Employee Confidence Index produced by Spherion Corp.
