On the morning of Sunday, December 1, 2024, around 5:30 a.m., DeSoto Police dispatchers received a report of a man behaving suspiciously in the 800 block of Windy Meadow Drive. The caller observed the individual walking along the sidewalk, appearing to look into parked vehicles under the cover of darkness.
DeSoto Police deployed a support drone, which quickly located the suspect entering the backyard of a nearby residence. Patrol units from Alpha and Charlie Shift arrived at the scene within minutes and confronted the individual, later identified as 27-year-old Juan Macias Tovar, a DeSoto resident, as he emerged from behind the home.
Tovar resisted officers during the interaction, leading to a physical altercation in which he was subdued and taken into custody. During the struggle, a large knife fell from Tovar’s jacket. He was arrested on outstanding warrants and charged with Resisting Arrest or Search, a Class A misdemeanor.
DeSoto Police credited the swift teamwork of officers and the use of drone technology for the successful apprehension of the suspect. They also thanked the vigilant citizen who reported the activity, emphasizing the importance of community involvement in crime prevention.
