Dallas Police Sergeant Indicted on Federal Gun Charges for Selling Stolen Service Weapons

Thomas Michael Fry (2024 - Royce City PD)

A Dallas police sergeant accused of selling stolen service weapons has been indicted on federal firearms charges, Acting U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Texas Chad Meacham announced.

Thomas Michael Fry, 52, was indicted Wednesday on three counts of possession and sale of a stolen firearm.

According to the indictment, at least three 9mm Sig Sauer pistols were stolen from a Dallas Police Department substation. Sgt. Fry allegedly pawned the firearms at a pawn shop in Oklahoma.

The investigation, led by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives (ATF) and the Dallas Police Department, began on October 10, 2022. On April 8, 2024, Fry turned himself in to the Mesquite Police Department and was released on bond. However, on July 13, 2024, Royce City Police arrested him on outstanding theft warrants. At the time, he was still on administrative leave from the Dallas Police Department.

Fry faces up to 30 years in federal prison if convicted. In addition to the federal charges, he has been charged by the state with three counts of theft of a firearm.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Joshua D. Detzky and Marty Basu. An indictment is an allegation and does not constitute proof of guilt. Sgt. Fry is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
