The Salvation Army of North Texas today proudly announced the groundbreaking of its transformative Dallas Social Services Campus, a state-of-the-art facility poised to more than double the number of individuals and families lifted out of homelessness each year. This ambitious project, the cornerstone of the historic $212.7 million "One Army, Many Fronts" Campaign – the largest in the organization's history – represents a bold response to the critical issues of poverty, homelessness, and addiction in the region.
With over 3,500 individuals experiencing homelessness on any given night in Dallas County alone, The Salvation Army's 21-acre campus signifies a significant step towards addressing this urgent need. Backed by 131 years of expertise and evidence-based programs, The Salvation Army of North Texas conducted a feasibility study highlighting the pressing need for immediate investment in Dallas County, positioning them uniquely to respond to the evolving challenges faced by the community.
This first-of-its-kind campus will offer a comprehensive range of services under one roof, creating a streamlined experience for clients seeking both immediate and long-term support. Key features of the campus include emergency shelter, inpatient and outpatient addiction recovery programs, safe shelter for survivors of domestic violence and sex trafficking, housing for veterans, family services and housing with onsite childcare, and an integrated medical, dental, and behavioral health clinic. By addressing multiple needs in a coordinated manner, The Salvation Army aims to establish a new standard for integrated social services, serving as a model for the region and the nation while fostering community engagement through volunteer opportunities and partnerships.
"This isn't just about building new facilities. It's about transforming lives by breaking the cycles of poverty, homelessness and addiction," said Lt. Col. William Mockabee, Executive Officer for the One Army, Many Fronts Campaign. "The vision for this campus has been shaped by the voices of those we serve and the urgent need for comprehensive, dignified support. This campaign is a call to our community to come together and build a future where no one is left behind."
While the groundbreaking marks a crucial milestone, The Salvation Army's vision extends beyond this single campus. The "One Army, Many Fronts" Campaign will also revitalize five strategic Corps Community sites across the six-county North Texas region, including locations in Oak Cliff, Irving, and Garland, as well as the Christmas & Disaster Relief Center and the Dallas Adult Rehabilitation Center. These revitalized sites will serve as vital next steps for individuals transitioning from the new Dallas Social Services Campus, ensuring a robust support network.
The Salvation Army of North Texas expressed its deep gratitude to the early supporters of the "One Army, Many Fronts" Campaign, whose generosity is already helping to bring this transformative vision to life. Campaign co-chairs Michal Powell and Bernie DiFiore were recognized for their instrumental leadership.
"We are deeply humbled by the steadfast support of our donors, volunteers and community partners. Their dedication is what makes this bold initiative possible. But there’s still more to be done," said Christina Cavalier, Senior Director of Community Relations. "While we’ve made tremendous progress through fundraising, additional support is needed to fully realize this transformative vision and ensure its long-term impact."
