75 Neglected Animals Seized in Johnson County Cruelty Investigation

The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office has seized a total of 75 animals from a property in the Sand Flats area of Cleburne following an animal cruelty complaint and subsequent investigation. The animals, which included horses, cows, dogs, and a large number of snakes, showed signs of neglect.

The investigation began on May 14, 2025, when deputies responded to a complaint regarding animals in poor physical condition. The owner claimed the animals were under veterinary care, but a records check by Detective Cory Anderson revealed they had not received professional attention since late 2023.

Based on these findings, Detective Anderson obtained an evidentiary search warrant for the property. During its execution, additional animals were discovered on-site, all exhibiting signs of neglect. A seizure warrant was then obtained, leading to the removal of the animals.

The seized animals include:

  • 10 horses
  • 3 cows
  • 3 dogs
  • 1 ferret
  • 3 chickens
  • 5 geckos
  • 1 tortoise
  • 2 fish
  • 1 cat
  • 46 snakes

The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office extended its gratitude to the Alvarado Veterinary Clinic, Natures Edge Wildlife Preserve, The Humane Society of North Texas, and Texas Parks and Wildlife Game Wardens for their support.

The investigation remains ongoing.
