IRVING, Texas - Irving Police have arrested a man for Sexual Assault and Burglary of a Habitation after he allegedly broke into an apartment via a second-floor balcony and sexually assaulted a sleeping woman.
At approximately 5:03 a.m. on Saturday, October 11, 2025, officers responded to the 3500 block of W. Northgate Dr. The victim told police she had returned to her second-floor apartment and gone to sleep. She was awakened by a man attempting to have sexual intercourse with her. She noted her shorts were completely removed when she awoke.
The 27-year-old victim knew the man, identified as Kevon Thomas Strickland, 28, but stated he did not live with her and had no consent to be in her apartment. When she awoke, Strickland immediately pretended to be asleep and ceased the assault. The victim is not sure what he did to her while deeply asleep.
Evidence of Forced Entry and Prior Record
The victim provided officers with Ring camera footage showing Strickland knocking on her door, but not entering. She determined the only way he could have gained entry was through her balcony door. Officers observed damage to the balcony consistent with someone climbing up and entering the apartment. Based on the evidence, officers believe Strickland burglarized the apartment.
Officers entered the apartment and found Strickland asleep in the bed, where he was taken into custody. He has been charged with Sexual Assault and Burglary of a Habitation.
Strickland has a history of arrests for violence:
-
February 2025: Arrested and charged with Assaulting a Pregnant Woman. He was convicted in April 2025 and sentenced to two years of deferred probation.
-
January 2024: Arrested for Assault Causing Bodily Injury against a woman. He was convicted via a plea deal and sentenced to 300 days in Dallas County Jail.
-
October 2023: Arrested for Assault, Family Violence Causing Bodily Injury and Evading Arrest Detention.
The victim, who was visibly shaken, was taken to Parkland Hospital by a friend to complete a SANE (Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner) exam. Bedding and clothing were seized as evidence. The investigation is ongoing.
