DALLAS, TX - The Dallas County District Attorney’s Office announced that two women have been sentenced in connection with the fatal shooting of 66-year-old Ahmad Alkhalaf during a Facebook Marketplace robbery in November 2024.
According to court records, Alkhalaf, of Sachse, had advertised an iPhone 15 for sale on Facebook Marketplace. He was contacted by 19-year-old Annika Aleman, who arranged to meet him at a Valero gas station located off I-35 and South Marsalis Avenue in Oak Cliff. Aleman did not go to the meeting but sent her co-defendant, 20-year-old Amaya Medrano, in her place.
When Alkhalaf arrived at the gas station, Medrano stole the phone from him. Alkhalaf briefly chased after Medrano, who then shot him, killing him at the scene. Following the shooting, Aleman posted the stolen phone for sale on Facebook Marketplace and helped dispose of the murder weapon.
The two women were later identified through surveillance video and social media evidence collected by the Dallas Police Department.
On October 13, 2025, both defendants entered guilty pleas as part of an agreement with prosecutors. Medrano pleaded guilty to murder and was sentenced to 55 years in prison. Aleman pleaded guilty to aggravated robbery and received a 37-year sentence.
At the time of the killing, Medrano was on probation after previously pleading guilty to a 2023 stabbing incident.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Alicia Patterson with investigative support from DA Investigator Rusty Taylor and the Dallas Police Department.
