DESOTO, Texas—DeSoto Police arrested a Waxahachie man late Wednesday night after a citizen's tip led officers to an active vehicle burglary operation and the quick apprehension of the suspect.
At approximately 11:10 p.m. on October 29, 2025, the DeSoto Police Department responded to a report of a burglary in progress in the parking lot of a business in the 200 block of North IH-35E Service Road.
The caller provided dispatchers with a description of the suspect, a white male with tattoos on his face, and noted that the suspect had fled, leaving a gray Nissan Altima idling nearby.
Officers quickly located the idling Nissan and observed a ski mask and a crowbar in plain view inside. Soon after, officers spotted the suspect near the IH-35E overpass and took him into custody. He was identified as Maverick James Stephens, 29, of Waxahachie.
Further investigation, including surveillance footage, linked Stephens to four vehicle burglaries within the parking lot. Stolen property was also recovered from the suspect.
Stephens has been charged with four counts of Burglary of a Motor Vehicle, a Class-A Misdemeanor.
Chief Costa commended the Delta Shift officers for their prompt response and also praised the citizen caller, stating, "Excellent job by the citizen caller who remained calm, answered the dispatchers' questions, and provided valuable information prior to police arriving." The department encourages the community to continue reporting suspicious activity.
