Confrontation During Irving Traffic Stop Ends in Arrest, Two Officers Injured

Arrested: William Gibson

On Saturday, October 25, 2025, at approximately 9:25 p.m., Irving Police officers were conducting routine patrol near the 2400 block of East Airport Freeway when they observed a gray Infiniti sedan traveling on the service road. A check of the vehicle’s registration revealed expired insurance, and officers also noted that a plastic license plate border obstructed the word “Texas.”

Officers initiated a traffic stop, and the driver pulled into the parking lot of the Budget Inn Suites at East Airport Freeway and Maryland Drive (Spur 482). The driver, later identified as 29-year-old William Gibson, became verbally confrontational during the encounter. When asked whether he had any weapons in the vehicle, Gibson refused to answer.

For officer safety, police instructed Gibson to exit the vehicle for a pat-down. Upon exiting, he refused to comply with commands to place his hands on his head and began tensing his arms, bringing them in front of his body and out of the officers’ view. Gibson was informed he was under arrest for traffic-related offenses, but he continued to resist and attempted to re-enter his vehicle.

Officers brought Gibson to the ground and placed him under arrest after a brief struggle. During the incident, one officer sustained minor abrasions to his right knee, while another suffered small lacerations to two fingers on his left hand. Both reported pain from the injuries. They were treated at the scene.

Gibson was booked into the Dallas County Jail and charged with Assault on a Peace Officer and Resisting Arrest. His total bond was set at $51,000.
