Robert Joel Taylor passed peacefully away in Waco, Texas, at the age of 80 on Friday, March 4, 2022, surrounded by loving family members. Robert was born on December 15, 1941, to Audrey Martha Taylor and Andrew Jackson Taylor in Chicago, Illinois.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Patricia Alice Jett, and brother, Richard James Taylor. He is survived by his sister Martha Lee Palmer of Denison, Texas, his son Robert Taylor Jr., his daughter Alyssan Taylor Barnes and her husband Stephen Barnes, and three grandchildren, Zoe, June, and Annie Barnes.
Additionally, he is survived by nieces Cathy Cannon of Clayton, Georgia, and Nicole Taylor of Lancaster, Texas, and nephews John David Palmer of Denison, Texas, Donald Raymond Jett of Houston, Texas, and Richard James Taylor Jr. of Lancaster, Texas. Other close family members include Mary Taylor of Irving, Texas, Robert Joseph Ralph of Denton, Texas, and Chelle Groom of Florida.
When Robert was eight, the Taylors moved from Chicago to Fort Worth, where the family operated the store Westcliff Hardware.
Robert graduated from Paschal High School and earned a BA degree from Texas Christian University before attending George Washington University Law School in Washington D.C. and Southern Methodist University. He made his career in finance as a stockbroker and later operated a commodity futures trading firm in Dallas. He also wrote a weekly column on investments for the business pages of the Dallas Morning News.
A memorial service is scheduled in Paradise, Texas, in late April for family and friends.
