For many of us the past year has been an uphill struggle, but the coming year brings new opportunities and new hope. I write to you with great expectations of what we can accomplish in the upcoming legislative session.
The 81st legislative session has now begun. Things inside the capitol are just heating up, with the speaker's race dominating headlines as of late. Tom Craddick, our house leader last session, courteously withdrew his name from the running. Representative Joe Straus from San Antonio, with the nomination and approval of the house, will now lead us from the speaker's chair.
I had a one-on-one conversation with Representative Straus about some of the things that are important to our district and to our state. He understands that bipartisanship is a crucial ingredient in improving the efficiency of the legislature. I can tell you with confidence that he will be able to help us in fulfilling Grand Prairie and Irving's legislative needs and in achieving our goals for this session. Congratulations Representative Straus.
Our main goal heading into session is improving the lives of working families in Grand Prairie and Irving. Taking care of our public educators, continuing the fight for the expansion of children's health insurance, and reevaluating the effect of the margins tax on small businesses are all solid steps in the right direction.
As your representative, it is my sworn duty to serve your best interests as individuals, members of our district, and citizens of Texas. But in order to do so I need your help.
