The Rochelle Road bridge, located between Fairbrook and Stonebrook Streets, is expected to reopen in early April, weather permitting, after a 13-month reconstruction project as part of the Embassy Channel Drainage project.
The $15.2 million project involved the full demolition and reconstruction of the 63-year-old bridge, along with the installation of a 10-by-7-foot concrete drainage structure under the roadway. The project also included repaving the roadway from Stonebrook Street to North MacArthur Boulevard.
The Embassy Channel Drainage project, which spans from State Highway 183 to Rochelle Road, also featured channel widening by 9 feet, channel deepening by 5 feet, and the lowering of sewer and water lines. Additionally, the Weathered Street bridge was reconstructed. These improvements are expected to significantly reduce flood risks in the surrounding area, removing nearly 300 homes and businesses from the 100-year floodplain.
Remaining work includes sodding and the replacement of fencing along the channel.
