With the historically dangerous summer driving season for teenagers approaching, AAA Texas and the City of Dallas Judiciary are partnering to host a free Teen Driver Safety Class. The event aims to educate both teens and their parents about the significant risks associated with driving.

The class will take place on Saturday, April 12, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the J. Erik Jonsson Central Library, located at 1515 Young Street in Downtown Dallas.

The program will feature guest speakers, traffic safety experts, and valuable resources designed to help pre-permit teens, new drivers, and their families navigate the often challenging learning-to-drive process and beyond. Registration will be required upon arrival.

Attendees can also enjoy free snacks and refreshments and will have the chance to participate in a raffle drawing for a free iPad and other door prizes.

This timely event comes just before the "100 Deadliest Days," the period between Memorial Day and Labor Day, which sees a significant spike in fatal crashes involving young drivers.

Key Teen Driving Facts Highlighted by AAA:

  • Distraction is a major factor: 60 percent of all teen crashes involve some form of distraction, with other passengers and technology like smartphones being leading culprits.
  • Higher crash risk: Teen drivers are nearly three times more likely to be killed in a crash compared to drivers aged 20 and older.
  • Speed is a killer: According to AAA.com, speed is a contributing factor in 30 percent of fatal crashes involving teen drivers.
  • Seat belt use is critical: Approximately 60 percent of teen drivers killed in crashes were not wearing a seat belt.
  • Impaired driving is a concern: One in 10 teens report driving after drinking alcohol.

AAA Texas and the City of Dallas Judiciary urge teens and parents to attend this free safety class to gain crucial knowledge and resources that can help prevent tragic outcomes on the road.
