Backpack Leads to Arrest of Fort Worth Suspect in Bedford Auto Burglaries

Kelvin Simon

A 20-year-old Fort Worth man, Kelvin Jerome Simon, was arrested on Friday, April 4, in connection with multiple vehicle burglaries that occurred earlier that morning in the 400 block of Pecan Bend in Bedford. The arrest led to the discovery of additional charges and the revelation of two outstanding warrants for Simon.

According to police, an officer investigating the vehicle burglaries around 6:30 a.m. spotted a man matching the suspect's description. When the officer attempted to make contact, the individual, identified as Simon, fled on foot, dropping a backpack in the process.

A search of the abandoned backpack revealed identifying information belonging to Simon, along with property reported stolen from the burglarized vehicles.

Working collaboratively, the Bedford Police Department, the Mid-Cities Task Force, and the Texas Department of Public Safety Criminal Investigations Unit located Simon at an apartment complex in Fort Worth. He was apprehended without incident.

Upon his arrest, officers recovered additional items that had been stolen from the Bedford vehicle burglaries. Further investigation revealed that Simon is now charged with 4 counts of Burglary of Vehicles, Evading Arrest Detention, Fraud, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Felon, and Possession of Marijuana.

Authorities also discovered that Simon had two active warrants at the time of his arrest: one for Tampering with an Electronic Monitoring Device issued by the Dallas County Sheriff's Office, and another for a Parole Violation.

Simon was initially booked into the City of Hurst Jail following his arrest and has since been transferred to the Tarrant County Jail to face the new charges and the pre-existing warrants.
