Work began Monday, April 28, at the Centennial Park pond located at 444 W. 2nd Street to lower water levels and prepare for a major desilting operation near the Sixth Street bridge crossing.
The project aims to restore flood storage capacity in the area by removing excess silt that has accumulated in the pond. Crews began lowering the water level by 3 to 4 feet on April 28. Full desilting work is scheduled to begin during the week of May 5.
Trail access around the park will remain open during the project, with brief closures only when equipment is entering or exiting the work zone. The desilting process is expected to continue for approximately 6 to 8 weeks, depending on weather conditions.
Silt removed from the pond will be placed on dry ground nearby, leveled, and cleaned of debris. It will remain onsite to dry for one to two months before final removal.
