A 26-year-old Irving man, identified as a documented gang member, has been charged with murder and multiple other felonies following a pursuit early Saturday morning that resulted in the death of a stranded motorist.
At approximately 1:45 a.m. on Saturday, May 17, 2025, a Grand Prairie Police officer patrolling the 1100 block of E. Main Street observed a Chevrolet Camaro. The driver of the Camaro reportedly decelerated rapidly and made several lane changes and turns upon seeing the officer, in what appeared to be an attempt to evade law enforcement.
Believing the vehicle might be recently stolen, the officer initiated a traffic stop for an observed traffic violation. The driver pulled into a parking lot but then immediately fled as the officer began to exit his patrol vehicle. A pursuit ensued onto IH-30 eastbound.
As the suspect attempted to exit at the Hampton Road South ramp, the Camaro struck a disabled vehicle that was stranded within a lane of traffic. The driver of the Camaro, and an unidentified passenger, then exited the vehicle and fled on foot.
The officer pursued the driver on foot, apprehending him in the median of IH-30 after a prolonged struggle. Backup officers arrived and assisted in taking the driver into custody. The driver, identified as Llonis Arevalo, 26, informed officers he had ingested fentanyl and was transported to a local hospital at his request. He was treated and subsequently released. The passenger was not located.
The Grand Prairie Police officer sustained minor injuries and was treated and released at the scene.
Tragically, the driver of the disabled vehicle suffered serious injuries and was transported to a local trauma center by Dallas Fire Rescue. The driver later succumbed to their injuries and was pronounced deceased by medical personnel. The Dallas County Medical Examiner’s Office will release the deceased’s identity once next of kin has been notified.
The suspect, Llonis Arevalo, has been charged with Murder, Evading Arrest Causing Death, Resisting Arrest, and Collision Involving Death. Authorities noted that Arevalo is a documented gang member and was currently out on bond in Dallas County for multiple felony offenses, including three counts of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, four counts of Burglary of a Habitation – Intend other Felony, Unlawful Carrying of a Weapon by a Felon, two counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance, Evading Arrest, and Driving while Intoxicated.
The Grand Prairie Police Department is leading the criminal investigation, while the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office is conducting the investigation into the crash itself.
