Irving residents are one step closer to enjoying aquatic activities year-round with significant progress being made on two key pool projects.
Senter Park Indoor Aquatic Facility Groundbreaking
On February 24th, city leaders celebrated the groundbreaking of a new, state-of-the-art indoor aquatic facility at the Senter Park Recreation Center. Following the ceremony, construction crews began the demolition and clearing of the 70-year-old outdoor pool to make way for the modern building.
"We are re-envisioning how we want this aquatic center to be. It’s going to have all sorts of features that our residents can enjoy any day of the year, no matter the season,” said Irving City Manager Chris Hillman at the groundbreaking.
The $25 million facility is set to include a leisure and lap pool, a thrilling spiral waterslide, a zipline, a dedicated toddler pool, and an outdoor sun deck. Additional amenities planned are a contemporary reception area, party rooms, and updated locker rooms. The design will also incorporate elements that pay homage to the original 1954 pool, such as rainforest-themed children’s areas and hexagon-shaped lane markers.
As part of the Senter Park project, the existing tennis court will be relocated to Senter Park East. However, other park amenities, including the playground, picnic tables, and shelters, will remain accessible to residents during construction. The new indoor aquatic center is anticipated to be completed in 2026.
Lee Park Pool Nearing Completion
Meanwhile, the new Lee Park Pool is nearing the final stages of construction, promising exciting upgrades including a new waterslide and various other enhancements. The revamped facility is on track to open this month, just in time for summer recreational activities. Residents have been eagerly awaiting the finished product since the design concept was unveiled in October 2023.
Both the Senter Park and Lee Park pool projects are integral components of the "Let’s Play Irving: Elevating Aquatics & Recreation" initiative. This comprehensive plan also includes the future development of the multi-generational Mustang Park Recreation and Aquatic Center, further enhancing recreational opportunities for the Irving community.
