On May 19, 2025, 30-year-old Trinton Deon Kennedy was sentenced to 25 years in prison after pleading guilty to multiple felony charges stemming from a January 2024 police chase and a November 2024 narcotics investigation by the Irving Police Department.
Kennedy was convicted of:
-
Evading arrest in a motor vehicle
-
Possession with intent to deliver 4–200 grams of cocaine
-
Possession with intent to deliver 4–400 grams of THC
-
Possession of marijuana (4 oz. – 5 lbs.)
-
Unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon
-
Possession of a prohibited weapon (machine gun)
In January 2024, Kennedy fled from officers responding to a report that he was armed, leading police on a high-speed chase. In November, Irving narcotics and gang investigators executed a search warrant at Kennedy’s apartment after observing hand-to-hand drug transactions. Officers recovered large amounts of cocaine, THC edibles, marijuana, drug paraphernalia, and three pistols, including a Glock outfitted with a switch attachment enabling fully automatic fire.
Kennedy, who has prior felony convictions, was legally prohibited from possessing firearms.
At his punishment hearing, prosecutors presented evidence of Kennedy’s gang affiliations, including tattoos tied to the Bloods criminal street gang and prior admissions. The State also detailed disturbing instances of animal abuse: one emaciated dog with two broken legs was found in a blood- and feces-covered patio; two others had ears crudely docked and were caged in unsanitary conditions. All three dogs were rescued by Irving Animal Control, treated, and later adopted.
The case was prosecuted by Clint Stiffler with DA Investigator Bonita Morgan. The investigating agency was the Irving Police Department, with special thanks given to Jessica Trevizo.
Kennedy was found guilty and agreed to the 25-year prison sentence as part of a plea deal.
