The Ellis County Sheriff's Office has arrested a 20-year-old man in connection with the fatal shooting of his mother, 58-year-old Stephanie Easter, in Red Oak.
On Sunday, May 25, 2025, at approximately 12:05 p.m., deputies were dispatched to the 100 block of Ridge Oak Drive after receiving a report of a deceased individual. Upon arrival, deputies located Easter with an apparent gunshot wound. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
An investigation was launched by the Criminal Investigations Division. Based on evidence gathered at the scene, investigators developed probable cause to charge the victim’s biological son, Dwight Xavier Jones Jr., with murder. He was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Wayne McCollum Detention Center, where he is currently awaiting arraignment.
