On June 10, 2025, the Irving Police Department arrested 61-year-old Darryl Patrick Goggans for the 1994 murder of Megan Beth Johns.
The breakthrough came after a recent evidence review produced a DNA profile that was entered into the Combined DNA Index System (CODIS), resulting in Goggans' identification.
In 1994, officers responded to a deceased female at the apartments located in the 3000 block of W. Walnut Hill in North Irving. The victim, Johns, had been stabbed multiple times. Investigators at the time suspected she knew her attacker, as there were no signs of forced entry. Goggans was her next-door neighbor.
"Thanks to the collective effort from family, friends, media, and law enforcement, Megan Johns case was never forgotten, and justice will finally be served," said the Irving Police Department in a statement.
Goggans is charged with Capital Murder and is currently in custody at the Irving City Jail.
Irving Police had previously posted a review of the cold case:
