Mesquite Police are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred shortly before 1 a.m. on Sunday, June 15, 2025, in the 2800 block of Franklin Drive. Officers responded to reports of multiple people fighting in a parking lot, followed by an exchange of gunfire.

The deceased was identified as 23-year-old Kemarius Mack of Lancaster. Despite lifesaving efforts by witnesses and officers—including CPR and application of a chest seal—Mack was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

According to investigators, the alleged shooter contacted law enforcement shortly after the incident and is claiming self-defense. The individual has been interviewed, and evidence from the scene is being reviewed. The case will be presented to a Dallas County Grand Jury to determine whether charges are warranted.

Police noted that the initial scene was volatile. While officers worked to aid the victim, one person was arrested for Interfering with Public Duties after obstructing medical efforts.

The investigation remains ongoing.
