A report of a stolen vehicle led Grapevine Police on a chase that ended with the suspect jumping into Grapevine Lake before his eventual apprehension.
At approximately 9:30 a.m. on Friday, June 20, 2025, a woman reported her black Ford Ranger stolen. An officer quickly spotted the vehicle traveling west on Dove, but the driver refused to stop, accelerating toward Grapevine Lake. The pursuit concluded when the suspect crashed near Trawick Pavilion, exited the vehicle, jumped a fence, and entered the water.
Officers attempted to reach the man by boat and jet ski, but the water became too shallow for their watercraft. Police then deployed a drone as the suspect disappeared behind some brush. A short time later, officers were alerted to a suspicious man near the softball complex. They were able to positively identify him as the suspect and take him into custody.
Police believe the 38-year-old Grapevine resident may be connected to overnight burglaries in the city. He is currently facing charges of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and evading arrest, with additional charges possible as the investigation continues. His identity will be released after his arraignment.
The Grapevine Police Department extended its thanks to the Grapevine Fire Department for their swift water support, medics for assessing the suspect's condition, and Parks and Recreation staff for their vigilance during the search.
