Masked Gunman Opens Fire Outside Killeen Business, One Dead and One Injured

The Killeen Police Department is investigating a fatal shooting that left one man dead and another injured early Saturday morning, June 21.

At approximately 12:46 a.m., officers were dispatched to the 700 block of West Hallmark Avenue in reference to a reported shooting. Upon arrival, they located two male victims suffering from gunshot wounds. Killeen Fire Department EMS responded and transported the victims to nearby hospitals.

A 21-year-old male victim was taken to Baylor Scott & White Medical Center and is in good condition. The second victim, identified as 18-year-old D’Angelo Marquis Ramos, was initially transported to Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center before being transferred to Baylor Scott & White, where he was later pronounced deceased at 12:39 p.m. by Justice of the Peace Larry Wilkey. An autopsy was ordered at the Southwest Institute of Forensic Sciences in Dallas.

According to preliminary findings, the victims were standing outside a business talking with two other men when a masked suspect approached on foot and opened fire. The suspect, described as a Black male wearing all dark clothing and a mask, fled the scene in a dark-colored sedan.

The Killeen Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division, Robbery-Homicide Unit, is actively investigating the incident. Detectives are asking area residents and businesses to review surveillance footage for any suspicious activity around the time of the shooting.
