The Irving Police Department will conduct a DWI Enforcement Initiative on July 4th as part of a statewide effort to reduce alcohol-related crashes and help end the daily death toll on Texas roadways, known as the #EndTheStreakTX campaign.
DWI unit officers will focus on identifying and arresting impaired drivers during the holiday. Enforcement efforts will be concentrated in high-risk areas and during times when impaired drivers are more likely to be on the road.
The department, in coordination with the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), urges drivers to “Plan While You Can” by arranging a safe way home before consuming alcohol. Suggested alternatives include taxis, rideshare services, designated drivers, or public transportation.
Officials remind the public that impairment affects decision-making and motor skills, and driving under the influence can result in serious consequences, including injury or death.
Anyone who observes a suspected impaired driver is encouraged to call 911 with information, if it can be done safely.
