Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) is entering a major new phase of its International Parkway Project as part of a historic wave of construction across the airport. The project, which is shifting access to Terminals A, B, and C to right-hand exits from International Parkway, is intended to streamline traffic flow and improve the customer driving experience.
Detours Begin in August for Terminals A and B
Starting in the first week of August, drivers will see detours near Terminals A and B to allow crews to connect a new bridge into Terminal B’s existing roadway. The detour phase is expected to last about 90 days.
During this time:
-
Terminal B will only be accessible from the southbound side of International Parkway.
-
Northbound drivers will be required to bypass all other terminal entrances, use the U-turn beyond the terminals, and return southbound to reach Terminal B via the existing left-hand exit.
-
Drivers exiting Terminal A will be routed to the North Exit.
-
Those needing to head south will use the left-hand U-turn before the North Exit Plaza to re-enter southbound International Parkway.
DFW will provide more updates and signage to guide travelers during the transition. Customers can also sign up for email alerts about construction and detours.
Massive Beam Installation Nears Completion
As part of the new roadway network, crews recently completed the installation of 141 beams across four structures, adding more than 3,300 feet of new bridge infrastructure for access into Terminals A, B, and C.
Key figures from the beam installation:
-
Total beam length: 15,142 linear feet (over 2.8 miles)
-
Total weight: 13 million pounds
-
Number of shifts: 12
-
Total work hours: 6,500+
-
Equipment used: 18 cranes, including a 900-ton crane
The beam installation took place primarily overnight to minimize operational impacts. Despite the complexity of the work zones along International Parkway and surrounding terminals, airport teams report minimal disruption to travelers and ongoing airport operations.
