IRVING, Texas — On July 10, 2025, at approximately 4:30 p.m., Irving Police responded to a reported stabbing at the Regency Park Condominiums in the 1700 block of E. Grauwyler Road.
The victim, 73-year-old Yolanda Gutierrez, told officers she was attacked by her common-law husband of 40 years, 77-year-old Emilio Cardenas-Contreras. The couple has been separated for two years. According to the police report, Cardenas-Contreras was upset over the separation and was waiting for Gutierrez to return to her apartment.
When she arrived, he confronted her in the parking lot. Gutierrez attempted to flee but was chased down, knocked to the ground, and stabbed multiple times. She sustained several chest lacerations and a severe injury to her left wrist. Emergency responders transported her to a local hospital in stable condition.
Witnesses at the scene identified Cardenas-Contreras to officers. He was taken into custody and transported to the Irving Jail. He is charged with Domestic Violence Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon Causing Serious Bodily Injury, a first-degree felony. A hold from INS has been placed on him for being an illegal alien.
The investigation is ongoing.
