IRVING, TX – On Friday, July 25, 2025, at approximately 1:10 p.m., an Irving Police Department detective was conducting a follow-up investigation into a series of thefts from delivery trucks in the area of the 500 block of Promenade Parkway in Las Colinas.
While in the area, the detective observed a full-sized SUV that matched the description of one used in earlier thefts. He also saw that it was parked in the vicinity of a FedEx delivery truck. As he approached, he witnessed the suspect, later identified as 28-year-old Jaynan Harper, actively stealing from the FedEx truck.
As the detective tried to make contact, Harper entered his vehicle and attempted to flee the scene. During his attempt to evade the officer, Harper drove toward the detective, striking him as he jumped out of the way. This caused an injury to the officer's right arm. According to a witness on scene, it was confirmed that Harper drove directly at the officer, who was forced to move quickly to avoid being severely injured or killed. The police report stated that the detective discharged his firearm at least once in response, but Harper was not hit.
Harper fled the scene successfully. Irving PD issued an APB with the description of the vehicle and suspect. Later that night, Harper was located and arrested by Dallas Police officers without further incident. He was booked into the Dallas County Jail on charges of Aggravated Assault Against a Public Servant and Burglary of Vehicles. He has since been released on bond.
The Irving Police Department confirmed that the injured detective suffered minor injuries and is expected to make a full recovery.
The Irving Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Unit, in coordination with the Dallas County District Attorney’s Public Integrity Unit, continues to investigate the incident.
