Dallas Man Gets 10 Years for Fentanyl Possession After Months of Gas Station Harassment

Derrick Lockett

DALLAS — Derrick Demon Lockett, 50, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison following a guilty plea for possession of fentanyl (4-200g) with a deadly weapon, according to the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office.

Lockett had been the subject of multiple complaints from a gas station where he repeatedly stole items and sold drugs in the parking lot. Attempts to trespass him were unsuccessful, as he often fled before officers could respond.

On March 5, 2024, Lockett entered the store again and stole a Red Bull. When confronted by the gas station attendant, he punched the employee in the face and made threats. Officers were flagged down nearby, and Lockett attempted to give a false name, evade arrest, and resist officers for approximately two minutes.

After he was detained, officers discovered fentanyl, a handgun, stolen merchandise, and marijuana in his bag and jacket. Lockett has prior prison sentences for aggravated robbery and assault-family violence.

The case was led by prosecutor William Davidson and second chair Jui Kothare. Bonita Morgan served as DA Investigator, and the Dallas Police Department handled the investigation.
