AUSTIN, Texas – Following a months-long investigation, Attorney General Ken Paxton has reached a historic agreement with WK Kellogg Co. (“Kellogg’s”) to permanently remove artificial food colorings from its cereals in the United States.
Under a legally binding Assurance of Voluntary Compliance (AVC) signed by Kellogg’s, the company has committed to eliminating toxic dyes from its cereals by the end of 2027. Kellogg’s is the first major food manufacturer to sign an official agreement of this kind, following verbal commitments from other companies.
“Following months of investigating and negotiating, I’m proud to officially say Kellogg’s will stop putting these unhealthy ingredients in its cereals,” said Attorney General Paxton. “The signed AVC demonstrates that Kellogg’s is committed to keeping this pledge, and I commend the company for doing the right thing. I encourage other food manufacturers to sign similar agreements to demonstrate their commitment to helping Americans live healthier lives.”
The investigation began in February 2025 with a Civil Investigative Demand issued to Kellogg’s and was publicly announced in April. Authorities launched the inquiry after discovering that while Kellogg’s had removed petroleum-based dyes in Canada and Europe, it continued using blue, red, and yellow dyes in cereals sold in the United States.
