In the early hours of Monday, September 1, 2025, Irving emergency crews responded to a deadly crash along westbound Interstate 635 near the President George Bush Turnpike.
Around 3:30 a.m., Irving Fire Department and Irving Police officers arrived to find a vehicle fully engulfed in flames. The driver, whose identity has not yet been released, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators say the vehicle had been traveling westbound at a high rate of speed when it veered off the roadway and struck a bridge pillar. The force of the collision ignited the vehicle.
Authorities later confirmed that before the crash, the driver had expressed suicidal thoughts. Police determined the collision was an intentional act to cause their own death.
Westbound lanes of IH-635 were shut down for several hours as crews worked to extinguish the fire and clear the wreckage.
