IRVING, TX – On September 4, 2025, at 9:02 p.m., Irving Police responded to a disturbance in the 400 block of Hughes Dr. near N. O’Connor Rd. in North Irving.
Five victims — Gary Lopez, Geovanni Lopez, Mercedes Mejita, Elena Lopez, and George Lopez — told officers they had been arguing with their neighbor, 31-year-old John Jones, in the front yard of their home. While the report did not specify the cause of the argument, witnesses said Jones became agitated after being asked multiple times to leave the yard.
Jones then allegedly pulled out a small black handgun and pointed it at all five victims as they stood on the porch. According to police, he threatened to kill them and warned he would “catch them on the street.” One of the victims was able to call 911.
When officers arrived, Jones fled into his home across the street. He was later arrested without incident and transported to the Irving Jail. Officers recovered the firearm from Jones’ bedroom.
Jones now faces five counts of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon. Police also discovered he had an outstanding warrant for Public Intoxication from Allen Police and three traffic violation warrants from Richardson and Plano Police.
On September 5th, Jones was transferred to the Dallas County Jail, where he remains held on a $125,000 bond.
