ALVARADO, Texas—A man has been found deceased in Lake Alvarado after the canoe he borrowed capsized.
On Friday, September 12, 2025, authorities responded to a report of a possible drowning at Lake Alvarado near the Blue Water Oaks Community after a capsized canoe was discovered. The owner of the canoe had found the vessel early that morning and reported it. The canoe had been borrowed the previous evening by Douglas Bernard Joe, a Johnson County resident.
The Alvarado Police Department, Alvarado Fire Department, and Texas Game Warden personnel conducted an extensive search throughout Friday, but Mr. Joe was not located.
The search resumed on Saturday, September 13, and at 08:11 hours, Mr. Joe was found deceased in the lake.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
