Bell County, TX -- On Sunday evening, September 21, 2025, emergency crews responded to a boating incident on Belton Lake. The call came in around 7:27 p.m.
According to the Bell County Sheriff’s Office, an adult male and a minor child were injured when their boat was involved in the accident. Friends who were also on the lake assisted in the initial rescue, transporting the victims to the boat ramp at Temple Lake Park.
The adult victim was taken to Baylor Scott & White Medical Center, where he later died. Justice of the Peace Ted Duffield has ordered an autopsy. The child was transported to Baylor Scott & White McLane Children’s Hospital in Temple.
The incident remains under investigation by the Bell County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division and Texas Parks and Wildlife Game Wardens. Authorities have not released the identity of the adult victim pending family notification, and the child’s condition is being withheld at the family’s request.
The Bell County Sheriff’s Office expressed condolences to the family, stating their thoughts and prayers are with them during this difficult time.
