On Wednesday, September 24, 2025, a Tarrant County jury found 23-year-old Bryce David Long guilty of murder. Following the verdict, Long was sentenced to 35 years in prison.
The conviction stems from a July 21, 2022, shooting in east Fort Worth, where Long fired at least six shots into a vehicle, killing 30-year-old Mia Rhodes and injuring her passenger. Court testimony revealed the shooting was a revenge killing. Long targeted Rhodes due to her involvement in the earlier murder of his cousin, 24-year-old Jordan Harris, who was beaten and strangled in February 2022. Rhodes was one of three individuals charged in connection with Harris’ death.
According to the arrest report, Long used a Glock handgun equipped with a laser pointer. He fired multiple 9mm rounds at Rhodes, striking her in the head, and also shot at her passenger, who survived. The day after the incident, Fort Worth Police Department Homicide Unit detectives Tom O’Brien and Paul Vega visited a Fort Worth residence where a Kia Optima, identified on surveillance as following Rhodes’ vehicle near the shooting scene, was located. Long answered the door and agreed to be interviewed, admitting that he had followed Rhodes and fired at her at the intersection of Meadowbrook Drive and the East Loop 820 service road.
The Harris homicide investigation had been initiated by DFW Airport Police. In addition to Rhodes, two others were charged in Harris’ death: 46-year-old Quincey Parker, who was sentenced to 20 years in prison in January 2025, and 36-year-old Kevin Kirven, who was sentenced to 60 years for a separate murder. That murder was also a revenger killing. The case involved a history of assaults and legal conflicts related to the victim and her co-defendants.
“This was a calculated act,” Assistant District Attorney Steven Elliott told the jury. “This Defendant decided he wanted to be the judge, jury, and executioner,” added ADA Michael Mooneyham.
The prosecution team included ADAs Steven Elliott and Michael Mooneyham. The investigation was supported by DA investigator Kevin Hilliard, and Victim Coordinator Carma Anderson provided assistance to the victim’s family.
