DALLAS, TX – A tragic shooting in the Oak Cliff area of Dallas has left a 16-year-old boy dead and a 20-year-old man facing manslaughter charges. The incident occurred on the evening of Sunday, September 28, 2025, in the 800 block of Ryan Road, near the intersection of S. Polk Street and W. Kiest Boulevard.
Dallas Police were dispatched at approximately 9:50 p.m. in response to reports of a shooting. When officers arrived, they found a male teen suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. Emergency medical personnel attempted to provide care, but the victim, later identified by the Dallas County Medical Examiner’s Office as 16-year-old Jerry Castillo-Saravia, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators say the shooting appears to have been accidental. Preliminary reports indicate that three individuals were present at the location at the time of the incident and were reportedly handling firearms. According to statements gathered during the investigation, one of the individuals, 20-year-old Anderson Acabal-Nolasco, had been passed a handgun by another person and believed the weapon’s safety was engaged. When the gun discharged, Castillo-Saravia was struck in the chest.
Following the shooting, Acabal-Nolasco allegedly attempted to hide both firearms in a nearby alley and instructed witnesses to provide false information to authorities. Witness statements later contradicted this attempt, and law enforcement officials were able to determine the true sequence of events leading to the fatal shooting.
Acabal-Nolasco was arrested at the scene and charged with manslaughter. His bond was set at $150,000. Additional complications have arisen due to his immigration status, as he is not a legal resident of the United States. Dallas-INS has requested an immigration hold, meaning he may face additional proceedings related to his undocumented status following the criminal case. Authorities have confirmed that Acabal-Nolasco is originally from El Salvador.
