IRVING, Texas—A 22-year-old Irving woman is facing multiple charges, including burglary and injury to an elderly and disabled person, following a domestic disturbance at a home on May 17.
Irving Police officers were called to the 1300 block of Owen Drive (near N. Irving Heights Drive), where they found Tajanea Suealla Rust, 22, along with two victims, Anne Rust, 68, and Tamyra Rust.
According to the investigation, Tajanea Rust confronted her mother, Anne, about childhood trauma. During the confrontation, she allegedly pointed a realistic BB gun at Tamyra's head and threatened to kill her. Tamyra, who is developmentally and intellectually disabled, blocked a door to allow her mother and a minor child to escape through the front door.
As Anne Rust, carrying the child, tried to get to a neighbor's house for safety, Tajanea Rust grabbed her mother by the arm, causing her pain and back injury as she tried to shield the child. During the assault, the neighbor's door opened and both women entered the home. The three residents inside saw what they believed to be a firearm and barricaded themselves in a room out of fear of being shot.
Officers arrived and took Tajanea Rust into custody. She was booked into the Irving Jail and charged with:
-
Three counts of Burglary of Habitation (for entering the neighbor’s house)
-
Abandoning a Child in Imminent Danger (for being reckless and endangering a child by assaulting the caretaker while the caretaker was holding the child in her arm, this charge according to Section 262.302 of the Family Code)
-
Injury to an Elderly Person
-
Injury to a Disabled Person with Bodily Injury
At the time of booking, officers requested a mental health evaluation for her. She was later transferred to the Dallas County Jail and was indicted on August 4. A request to have her bail reduced from $135,000 to $1,000 was denied. The court case is pending.
