FORT WORTH, Texas—A Tarrant County jury has sentenced a 55-year-old man to 35 years in prison without parole after finding him guilty of the continuous sexual abuse of a child under the age of 14.
John Dowdy, 55, was convicted on September 23, 2025, for sexually assaulting a young boy for approximately seven years. The abuse began when the victim was just five years old. During the trial, the jury was also presented with evidence that Dowdy sexually assaulted a second boy on a separate occasion.
The Tarrant County District Attorney's Office credited the work of the Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office and the Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office for their commitment to the case and community safety.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Madeline Jones and Tyler Coleman.
