Garland, TX – A 17-year-old from Mexico, Amancio Noriz, has been convicted of Capital Murder and sentenced to 30 years in prison for a deadly double shooting that occurred during a drug and gun deal in Garland.
The crime happened on January 14, 2023, outside Trompo Taco Restaurant, where victims Alan Chavez and Ruben Santibanez met the defendant for what appeared to be an illegal transaction. Surveillance footage captured the entire sequence of events.
The two victims arrived in a white Chevy pickup truck, went inside the taco shop to buy drinks, and then returned to their vehicle. Moments later, Noriz pulled up in a gray car, walked to the truck, and got into the passenger seat.
A struggle broke out between Noriz and one of the victims at the truck’s passenger door, followed by multiple gunshots. The first victim collapsed beside the vehicle, while Noriz got out and chased down and fatally shot the second victim as he tried to run.
After the shooting, Noriz was seen taking something from inside the truck before fleeing the scene in his own vehicle. He later fled to Mexico, where he remained for several months before surrendering to police in Laredo.
The case was prosecuted by Lead Prosecutor Jessica Trevizo and 2nd Chair Jacob Zachariah, with support from DA Investigator Steve Wilson and DA Victim Advocate Maggie Negrete. The investigation was led by the Garland Police Department.
Noriz pleaded guilty and received a 30-year prison sentence as part of an agreement with prosecutors.
