DALLAS, TX - Toneisha Savage, 42, has been sentenced to six years in prison after being found guilty of manslaughter in the death of 19-year-old Jamiah McCoy.
The incident occurred on July 1, 2022, at the Tides Apartments on Wickersham Road in Northeast Dallas. Police said a disagreement between McCoy and her friend Nehemiah Savage led McCoy to leave the apartment. When she returned with her stepmother and cousin to retrieve her belongings, a crowd had gathered outside.
A fistfight broke out between McCoy and Nehemiah, and Toneisha Savage, Nehemiah’s mother, reportedly came out with a gun. She shot McCoy once in the back, killing her, and also fired at McCoy’s stepmother, striking her in the leg, before fleeing the scene.
After a day of jury deliberations, Savage was convicted of manslaughter and sentenced to six years in prison.
