Even though Arbor Day has passed, its impact continues to take root in the City of Irving. This year, the City’s Stormwater Management and Clear Water teams helped residents learn more about sustainability and the importance of protecting local waterways, reminding the community that caring for the environment is a year-round effort.
At their informational booth at Irving Heritage Park last Saturday, the team provided resources on preventing stormwater pollution, choosing native plants, and simple ways households can reduce runoff and protect local ponds, creeks, and lakes. Their message emphasized that trees and clean water go hand in hand—healthy landscapes support healthy ecosystems.
How Residents Can Continue the Arbor Day Spirit:
- Plant native trees and shrubs to support local wildlife.
- Avoid pouring chemicals or yard waste into storm drains.
- Use rain barrels or natural ground cover to reduce runoff.
- Volunteer in local community clean-ups or park projects.
Arbor Day is more than a date on the calendar. Through education, stewardship, and community involvement, Irving continues to invest in a greener, cleaner future for all who call the city home.
