Mark D. Thompson, vice president of marketing for the Irving Convention and Visitors Bureau, was recently elected chairman of the Dallas-Fort Worth Area Tourism Council, a cooperative marketing organization that represents over 45 cities and convention bureaus in North Texas. Mark also currently serves on the Americas Board of Directors for the Hospitality Sales and Marketing Association International (HSMAI), and recently completed his second term as advisory board chairman for HSMAI's Hotel Director of Sales and Marketing Special Interest Group.
Thompson, a 17-year industry veteran, oversees the bureau's marketing, communications and research functions. He has held various marketing positions with the Georgetown Convention and Visitors Bureau and Southfork Ranch. Prior to joining the bureau in 2004, Thompson served as executive director of sales and marketing for both Southfork Ranch Event and Conference Center and The Southfork Hotel.
