American Airlines Announces Plans to Resume Nonstop U.S.–Venezuela Flights

American Airlines says it plans to reinstate nonstop service between the United States and Venezuela, becoming the first U.S. carrier to publicly announce intentions to return to the country since service was suspended in 2019.

The airline said it is working closely with federal authorities and is prepared to launch flights once all required government approvals and security assessments are completed.

“We have a more than 30-year history connecting Venezolanos to the U.S., and we are ready to renew that incredible relationship,” said Nat Pieper, American’s Chief Commercial Officer. “By restarting service to Venezuela, American will offer customers the opportunity to reunite with families and create new business and commerce with the United States.”

American began operating in Venezuela in 1987 and, prior to suspending flights in 2019, was the largest U.S. airline serving the country. The carrier noted that it continues to operate the most nonstop routes between the United States and destinations across the Caribbean and Latin America, providing critical links for business, leisure, humanitarian travel, and family connections.

The airline said additional details about routes, schedules, and timing will be announced in the coming months as coordination with federal authorities continues and all safety and security requirements are finalized.
