DALLAS, Texas - A Dallas County jury has convicted 49-year-old Tivan Jerome Moore of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon for a brutal stabbing aboard a Dallas Area Rapid Transit bus in 2023, sentencing him to 24 years in prison.
The verdict was returned Jan. 14, 2026, following a trial in Criminal District Court No. 5. Judge Carter Thompson imposed the sentence. Moore, who also goes by the name "Tiuan" and has resided at times in both Dallas and Texarkana, had been in custody at the Dallas County Jail since his arrest on Aug. 6, 2023.
The charge stems from an attack that occurred Saturday night, Aug. 5, 2023, at approximately 8:10 p.m. According to investigators, Moore and the 46-year-old victim were involved in a verbal dispute at a DART bus stop while other riders looked on. When the bus arrived, Moore was seen punching the woman before stabbing her repeatedly with a folding pocket knife.
Detectives said the victim was stabbed at least 60 times over the course of roughly 10 minutes, suffering wounds to her back, hand, and under her arm as she attempted to defend herself. Officers recovered the knife at the scene and took it into evidence. The assault was captured on video from the bus, including footage from inside the vehicle and views through the windshield.
Despite the severity of her injuries, the victim survived after a lengthy recovery and continues to experience physical and emotional effects from the attack.
During the trial, the defense argued that the victim provoked the incident. Moore testified that he had been robbed by the victim and an unknown man shortly before the bus arrived, though investigators said no such robbery was visible on the video evidence. Moore also testified that he was guilty only because he believed he took the confrontation too far.
The case was led by prosecutor Matthew McCurdy, with Robin Pittman serving as second chair. Martin Bosse was the district attorney’s investigator, and Patzy Butler served as paralegal. The investigation was conducted by the DART Police.
