Dallas County Man Convicted After Wedding Venue Arrest in Ellis County

Jose Luis Guzman

ELLIS COUNTY, Texas — A Dallas County man has been convicted in connection with an incident at a wedding venue in Ennis that led to a foot chase and struggle with deputies.

Ellis County and District Attorney Lindy Beaty announced that on February 4, 2026, a jury found Jose Luis Guzman guilty of Resisting Arrest and Evading Arrest or Detention.

The charges stem from an incident on November 9, 2024, at Wranch, a wedding venue in Ennis. Ellis County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the location after receiving a noise complaint. When deputies arrived, venue owners told them the bride’s mother wanted Guzman removed from the property, alleging he was intoxicated and threatening to fight other guests.

According to authorities, when deputies approached Guzman, he fled and ignored commands to stop. Deputies eventually caught up to him and took him to the ground. During the arrest, Guzman resisted by pulling his arm away and refusing to allow deputies to place him in handcuffs. Deputies were ultimately able to detain him without injury to anyone involved.

Following the guilty verdict, both parties agreed to a punishment of 24 months of probation. As part of that sentence, Guzman must serve 30 days in the Ellis County Jail as a condition of his probation.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant County and District Attorneys Joshua Atilano and Colleen Collins, with assistance from Ellis County and District Attorney Investigator Steve Adams.

“This case is a prime example of why we take citizen compliance with officers seriously to ensure not only their safety but the safety of everyone around them,” Assistant District Attorney Colleen Collins said. She noted that during the incident, people gathered around deputies and attempted to interfere, increasing the risk of harm. “We are lucky and thankful that no one was injured. It serves as a reminder to let officers do their job so they can protect and serve safely.”
