DALLAS — A Dallas man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison after a jury found him guilty of intoxication manslaughter in a crash that killed a pedestrian near Bishop Lynch High School.
On February 11, 2026, a jury convicted Mauricio Jesus Mireles, 24, and sentenced him to prison following the October 21, 2023 death of Robert Charles Bailey, who was walking along a sidewalk near the school around 1:55 a.m.
According to prosecutors, Mireles was driving a Lexus sedan eastbound on Ferguson Road when the roadway curved slightly north. Investigators determined Mireles continued straight, drove off the roadway, mounted the curb, and struck Bailey, sending him into the air. The vehicle then crashed into a telephone pole, knocking out power to the surrounding area. The crash was captured on surveillance video from the Bishop Lynch parking lot.
When Dallas police officers arrived, Mireles was sitting on a curb near Bailey’s body. Officers reported Mireles admitted at the scene that he had been drinking and driving. He cooperated with investigators and consented to a blood draw, which later showed a blood alcohol concentration of 0.116, measured approximately two hours after the crash.
During trial, jurors reviewed surveillance footage, police body camera video, and testimony from investigating officers. Members of Bailey’s family, including his widow and the mother of his two children, also addressed the court.
Prosecutors requested a sentence of at least 10 years in prison, while the defense argued for probation. After about one hour and 20 minutes of deliberation, the jury returned a guilty verdict and imposed a 10-year prison sentence, including a deadly weapon finding.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Andrew James, with assistance from District Attorney Investigator Eric Knight and paralegal Maria Cantrell. The Dallas Police Department conducted the investigation.
