DALLAS — A Dallas County jury has convicted a 25-year-old man of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after prosecutors said he shot a man nine times following a dispute involving a counterfeit $20 bill.
On February 13, 2026, Jadariuce Ladalle Devoils was found guilty by a jury and later sentenced by a judge to 10 years and six months in prison.
According to evidence presented at trial, the victim, Eric Maddox, unknowingly gave Devoils a counterfeit $20 bill to purchase a drink and a cigarette at a food mart. When a clerk informed Devoils the bill was fake, prosecutors said he became enraged and stated he intended to kill the person who gave him the money.
Devoils then returned to Maddox and shot him nine times before fleeing the scene.
At the time of the shooting, Maddox was incarcerated and participating in a six-month program designed to prepare him for parole. The judge added an additional six months to Devoils’ sentence after determining the attack forced the victim to restart the program.
The case was prosecuted by lead attorney Ashley Sako with Taylor Cowin serving as second chair. District Attorney Investigator Jesse Cantu assisted with the case, which was investigated by the Dallas Police Department.
