A strong cold front moving through North Texas is expected to bring a rapid drop in temperatures to Irving tonight, along with gusty winds and significantly cooler conditions heading into Monday.

After a warm Sunday with temperatures reaching the 80s across much of North Texas, the cold front is expected to move through the Dallas–Fort Worth area late Sunday evening into the overnight hours. Forecasters say temperatures will fall quickly behind the front, with overnight lows expected to drop into the 30s by early Monday morning.

The front is also expected to bring strong north winds across the region. Wind speeds could reach 20 to 30 mph with higher gusts possible, creating noticeably colder conditions overnight and into Monday. Strong winds combined with dry air may also elevate fire danger across parts of North Texas.

While freezing temperatures are not currently expected in Irving, the sudden change will make Monday morning feel much colder compared to the warm conditions experienced over the weekend.

How Residents Can Prepare

Officials recommend residents take a few precautions as the colder air and gusty winds move into the region:

• Secure outdoor furniture and loose items that could be affected by strong winds

• Dress in layers if heading out Monday morning

• Ensure pets have adequate shelter overnight

• Avoid outdoor burning due to increased fire risk

• Use caution while driving if strong winds develop overnight

Looking Ahead

Cooler conditions are expected to continue into Monday, with daytime highs likely remaining in the 50s across North Texas. Temperatures are expected to gradually warm again later in the week as spring conditions return to the region.

Rapid weather changes like this are common in North Texas during the spring months, when strong cold fronts frequently move through the region and cause sudden shifts in temperature.

Residents are encouraged to monitor local forecasts and weather alerts as conditions change overnight.
