FORT WORTH, Texas - A Fort Worth-area man has been arrested after authorities say he posed as an attorney and targeted families of jail inmates in a scam.
The Tarrant County District Attorney’s Office, in coordination with the Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office, launched an investigation into allegations that 60-year-old Ramond Davis Jr., also known as “Justin,” was falsely representing himself as a licensed attorney.
Investigators say Davis contacted inmates housed in the Tarrant County Jail and offered legal services. He then arranged meetings with family members, collecting payments of around $3,000 in exchange for supposed legal representation.
Authorities confirmed that Davis is not a licensed attorney.
An arrest warrant was obtained, and Davis was taken into custody without incident. He has been charged with three counts of falsely holding oneself out as a lawyer.
Under Texas law, the charge is a third-degree felony, punishable by two to ten years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000.
Davis’ bond has been set at $75,000.
Investigators believe there may be additional victims and say the investigation is ongoing, with more charges possible.
Anyone who believes they may have been contacted by Davis or victimized in a similar way is asked to have a family member contact the Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office at 817-884-1400 and ask to speak with Investigator T. Johnson or V. Espino-Nevarez.
